Threats to the Channel Country

The unconventional gas industry has targeted this region for extensive deep oil and shale gas resource extraction from beneath the Great Artesian Basin.

Exploration tenders for 11.000 sq km of the Cooper and Eromanga Basins were opened up to multi-national companies by the Minister for Mines and Resources, Dr Anthony Lynham on May 14, 2015.

The Mithaka - the Traditional Owners of this land - were not consulted.

Communities were not consulted.

Local businesses and beef producers were not consulted.
