Water Rights

Water rights and the right to object to developments that detrimentally affect livelihoods and the landscape were severely curtailed by the previous LNP government.

The current Labor government has yet to announce the legislation that is needed in order to protect the rivers and floodplains, as the previous Wild Rivers Act 2005 had.

The Channel Country must be protected: mining would cause serious and permanent damage to this unique and essential region.

The ecological and scientific values are internationally recognised.

The cultural values and their significance to the Traditional Owners are outstanding.

Changes to many pieces of Queensland legislation have been designed to fast-track this industry at the expense of all others.
